The East African Court of justice has not yet announced another date to hear the case filed against president Museveni’s government which didn’t proceed over internet disconnection in Tanzania

Richard Adrole a senior government lawyer was supposed to lead the government legal team to Arusha on Friday after using the entire weekend to prepare his team for the Monday proceedings was notified to hold their travels as security in Tanzania deals with the unrest that resulted from the controversial presidential elections where the incumbent Hassan Suluhu was declared a winner with over 97% victory.

Adrole’s team was going to defend several suits filed by serial litigate Male Mabirizi against the Attorney General where he is challenging Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama’s 2021 elections roadmap of the country’s electoral commission

In his petition, Mabirizi insists that the roadmap was announced illegally because candidates were not given the opportunity as required by the constitution to consult voters and there was no continuing registration of voters

Mabirizi also challenges Justice Byabakama’s decision of directing candidates to campaign via digital means adding that this is not indicated in the laws of the country’s electoral commission even though the Attorney General insisted that the decision was taken because of the Covid-19 outbreak

Mabirizi is also challenging parliament’s decision of passing the Judiciary’s Administration bill which was signed into law by the president allowing judicial officers to retire like kings with 80% of their salaries plus add-ons like cars, security and a lot of allowances.

Because of logistical issues, Mabirizi was not supposed to travel to Tanzania and from Friday, he was seen at the Supreme Court building which houses the registry of the East African Court looking for a zoom code which he was going to use to prosecute his cases from Kampala

“We didn’t proceed because Suluhu disconnected the internet, and put the entire Tanzania economy down. Even if I had money, i don’t think i would have travelled to Tanzania, that country now is not safe for us who believe in rule of law,” Mabirizi said.
