Hajji Faruk Ssebaggala has claimed that the reason why he was denied the opportunity to carry the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket for the position of Makindye West Member of Parliament was because of the hatred a section of party leaders has against the Ssebaggala family.
Ssebaggala is a son to late Shaban Ssebaggala and a brother to Al-Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala the former Mayor of Kampala city and also a brother to Hajji Latif Ssebaggala the former Kawempe North MP.
NUP first denied Latif Ssebaggala a ticket to contest for the position of Kawempe Division mayor and gave the ticket to the incumbent Emmanuel Sserunjogi Oweddembe. But before the ticket was given, Ssebaggala made serious allegations against Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu alias Chairman Nyanzi the elder brother to Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) that he is influenced the party’s Election Management Committee and has a list containing the names of people to be given the ticket.
Bobi Wine being the party principal established a committee to investigate the allegations and sources claim that the findings were personally handed to Bobi Wine who decided not to make them public
“Surely even if you have hatred against our family, you cannot reach this extent of exhibiting a high level of injustice on us without thinking of the party’s future and the country at large,” Ssebaggala said.
He claimed that the reason why Zahara Luyirika the Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) speaker was awarded a party ticket to contest in Makindye West even though she had not applied for the ticket in that area before the party’s Election Management Committee was that she was leading on the ground and at the headquarters.
“Everyone knows very well that I was in the lead. If the ticket was given to Allan Ssewanyana the incumbent or David Musiri who was also competing for it, I wouldn’t be shocked and I wouldn’t be asking these questions right now. You cannot just impose Luyirika who was rejected for the position of Kampala district woman MP on our people because of your personal issues. She is not even confident when addressing the voters. We need our leaders to tell us the price she paid which we didn’t pay,” furious Ssebaggala said
He accused Kivumbi of exhibiting his dictatorial characters to the extent of defending the undefendable boasting that as members of the party, they have the right toquestion why him and Bobi Wine are imposing Luyirika on the people of Makindye West.
Sources in Ssebaggala family claim that Kivumbi’s issues with their family started with late Nasser Ssebaggala and he was among the Democratic Party youths who de-campaigned him when he was contesting for the position of President General of the party where he was defeated by Norbert Mao who was supported by Kivumbi and Fred Mukasa Mbidde
Ssebaggala family assured this reporter that they are going to join other candidates in Butambala county and make sure that Kivumbi is defeated in the incoming elections as a way of putting a stop to his arrogance.
“He is unpopular in Butambala, you have been seeing how voters have been chasing him from one mosque to another with empty water battles! So which ground did they base on to give him the party ticket?” Ssebaggala questioned.
This website can authoritatively report that apart from Ssebaggala family, Mathias Mpuuga the former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Al-Hajji Obed Kamulegeya family, Al-Hajji Kaddunabi family, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo the National Resistance Movement National Vice chairperson and other prominent families in Butambala are targeting Kivumbi who they accuse of being arrogant
However, Kivumbi insists that whatever he is doing, he is doing it for the good of the party and not for his own personal benefit. He even boasted that he will win the coming elections and cautioned that those without NUP ticket will be badly defeated in Buganda.
